Hyde Park Real Estate

Hyde Park is one of Chicago’s oldest neighborhoods, having been established in 1861 and annexed by the City of Chicago in 1889.  With a quaint commercial district as well as the University of Chicago, it is a neighborhood considered desirable by many.  Bordered on the west by Washington Park and on the east by Lake Michigan and to the north 51st Street, the neighborhood extends south to the Midway Plaisance.  Hyde Park real estate is characterized by some of the most attractive vintage single family homes and small condominium buildings as well as the prominent University of Chicago.  Churches, parks and commercial establishments are plentiful in the tree-lined streets of Hyde Park, and many people who move in stay for the long term.

Looking at Hyde Park real estate, one will find brick and brownstone homes with pleasing vintage character, shaded by old growth tress.  Emerging onto the main thoroughfare, the shops and eateries in the area will line the sidewalks.  Shoppers will be interspersed with students and other folks walking through the district.  In wintertime, there is ice skating in the center of Midway Plaisance, and summertime walks along the Plaisance offer views of the stately homes that surround the University.  Parks boast trees and green spaces as well as playgrounds for youngsters.  Tucked away among Hyde Park real estate are  vintage homes: the Robie House, a Frank Lloyd Wright design that is open for viewings.  Countless other homes of pleasing vintage character are also scattered throughout the streets of Hyde Park.

After a decline in the early twentieth century, Hyde Park real estate has seen a dramatic resurgence, anchored by the presence of the University of Chicago.  Its quiet, tree-lined streets offer some of the most attractive vintage homes for sale, as well as many affordable condos for sale.  Along with some of the condominiums, there are also many luxury homes.  There are many six and eight unit condo buildings on the quiet streets, with single family homes mixed in with them.  While prices declined somewhat during the recent downturn, prices of Hyde Park homes for sale have begun to rise and the neighborhood has recovered quite well.  Real estate for sale has seen increased activity, and the tempo of buyers out viewing homes for sale has risen.  Listings have risen back to levels seen before the downturn and activity for homes for sale in Hyde Park is brisk.
